“We want this country to be an entrepreneurial, share-owning democracy. The Enterprise Investment Scheme and Venture Capital Trusts, we will extend beyond 2025. Crucial steps on the road to making this a nation of entrepreneurs.” Kwasi Kwateng, Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Some welcome news for the EIS industry in last week’s “mini-budget” when the Chancellor extended the EIS sunset clause past 6 April 2025, with a focus on unlocking the UK’s entrepreneurial potential, driving economic growth, creating jobs, and funding innovation. This is a strong vote of confidence for the sector, and has been seen as a positive step by entrepreneurs seeking capital.
As investment managers investing into early stage tech under the EIS scheme for over 20 years this is a huge positive as we continue in our mission to back founders and support the growth of our companies. UK early stage companies are the life blood of the UK economy and we hope this vote of confidence from the Government will do more to drive innovation in the sector.
